Message for parents and caregivers: teacher job action vote

clasrooom-desks

Dear parents and caregivers;

As you have likely heard or read in the news, bargaining between the Government of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF)—the collective bargaining unit that represents approximately 13,000 teachers in the province, including Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools’ teachers—have not resulted in a new collective agreement.

As a division, we support the collective bargaining process, and we remain hopeful that a fair and reasonable collective agreement will be reached.

STF declared an impasse and held a vote among its members regarding job action, in which 95 per cent of voting members were in favour of sanctions/job action.

At this time, we are not aware of any specific plans for teacher job action nor what actions may be taken in the future. They could range from withdrawal of voluntary services like extra-curricular activities to a rotating or full strike.

In the event of job action, our goals will remain the same: to provide high-quality education to students in a safe learning environment. We will communicate updates to you through Edsby and/or School Bundle messenger (emails from noreply-gscs@schoolbundle.ca, listed as Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools, or text or voice messages from 1-306-400-6811).

Thank you for your understanding and patience throughout this process.

Sincerely,
François Rivard, Director of Education
Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools
