Welcome to St. Paul School!
Our school combines the warmth and safety of a small community with the programs and opportunities of a larger school.
The Benefits of French Immersion at École St. Paul:
Early French Immersion Works
- Earlier and more exposure is best for language proficiency. Our school is an Early Immersion program where students begin learning French in Kindergarten or Grade 1. This program typically leads to higher French proficiency and stronger academic outcomes.
- We are a single-stream school - all families enrol their children in our French Immersion program. This means morning announcements and hallway and playground interactions are in French.
- About 90% of the day is taught in French in K, Grade 1, and Grade 2, reducing to 80% starting in Grade 3 when English Language Arts is introduced.
Parents Do Not Need to Speak French
- You can fully support your child without knowing French. Our program is designed for students learning French as a new language, with guidance and resources to help families stay involved and engaged even without speaking French at home.
All Students Can Succeed
- Learning French, like any new skill, will have its ups and downs. Teachers meet each child where they are, providing support, planning, and ongoing communication.
- We offer small-group and targeted interventions and support in French when needed.
English Skills Remain Strong
- Formal English Instruction begins in Grade 3. Research shows French Immersion students' English skills meet or exceed those of students taught only in English by Grade 5 or Grade 6.
Students Set Up for High School Success
Students leave our school after Grade8 prepared for the demands of French Immersion at high school. Upon graduating, they learn a Bilingual Mention at Grade 12 graduation.
