Walking with Jesus: Eucharistic Procession for World Catholic Education Day

On Thursday, May 29, 2025—World Catholic Education Day—Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools’ students and staff from several schools in northeast Saskatoon came together in a public expression of faith and unity through a Eucharistic procession.
Organized by Fr. Gerard Cooper, pastor at the Cathedral of the Holy Family, the procession invited each participating school (St. Joseph High School, St. Volodymyr School, École Father Robinson School, Holy Family Catholic School, St. Nicholas Catholic School, and École St. Mother Teresa School) to begin their journey with a brief liturgy at the school before walking prayerfully with the Blessed Sacrament along a planned route between schools.
Students of all ages joined the procession, with each school community determining how far different grades would walk.
Stops along the way included moments of prayer, song, and hospitality. The procession was a living sign of the Church’s mission in Catholic education—to walk with Jesus and bring His presence and hope into the world.
The day culminated in a liturgy and blessing at the Cathedral of the Holy Family with students and staff from École St. Mother Teresa School.
A special thank you to all participating students and staff, Fr. Cooper, Fr. Joe-Nelo Penino, Bishop Mark Hagemoen, and all who helped organize and support this meaningful celebration of faith. Together, we are Pilgrims of Hope walking as one body in Christ.
