French immersion programming at Father Robinson School

Programs March 2, 2022
Father-Robinson-School

Starting in September 2022, Father Robinson will become the eleventh GSCS elementary school to provide French immersion programming. The school will offer both English and French immersion programming.

With French immersion enrolments in the northeast end of the city expected to continue to rise, division administrators considered various options to alleviate pressure on existing French immersion programs at other schools, particularly at nearby École St. Mother Teresa School.

Community consultations, surveys and stakeholder meetings were part of the process to add French immersion at Father Robinson. The Board of Education endorsed the decision at their February 14 meeting.

Father Robinson will be the designated French immersion school for the Erindale, Arbor Creek, Sutherland, Forest Grove and Willowgrove neighbourhoods. Division officials will continue to work with parents to smoothly transition families as needed. Transportation will be provided as per division guidelines.

Grade configuration is yet to be determined. Depending on initial demand, it is likely the program will start with lower grades and grow each year until it is offered from kindergarten to Grade 8.
