In June 2021, the federal government passed legislation to make September 30 a federal statutory holiday called the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

This day will be observed in Saskatchewan, but it is not yet a statutory holiday in Saskatchewan for employees who are not federally regulated.

Elected pope in 1978, Karol Wojtyla, from Poland, became the first non-Italian pope in 455 years. He made pastoral visits to 124 countries in his 26 years as pope (third longest serving pope in the history of the Church). John Paul II was canonized by Pope Francis in 2014.
