awâsisak kâ-nîmîhtocik St. Francis School and the Saskatoon Nutana Rotary Club are hosting The Sound of Reconciliation, a celebration of cultural dance and music, to take place at the new school. This fundraising event will merge Indigenous music with Concert Band music—utilizing the bands from Holy Cross High School and the Saskatoon Concert Band. It will feature Indigenous art, artists and traditional dancers in the cultural showcase. The entire program will be delivered in the Cree language and a translation will be provided.

The funds raised through this event are part of the Rotary Club’s commitment to support the school’s cultural education program by helping to meet costs relating to music and dance instruction and performance that are not covered through provincial education funding.

The admission cost is $70 per person, with a charitable donation receipt of $40.

Feast of St. Francis of Assisi All Day
Division

St. Francis was born in Assisi, Italy, in 1181. He was from a wealthy family. He served as a soldier and was a prisoner of war. After a pilgrimage to Rome, he decided to devote his life to the Christian faith and renounced all of his wealth to lead a life of poverty. His powerful preaching and simple life garnered many followers, and he formed the Franciscan Order of Preaching Friars. He was said to have preached to birds and animals, and is recognized as patron saint of the environment, animals, and birds because of the respect he gave to all God’s creatures. He designed the first living Nativity set. St. Francis died in 1226.
