Back to School 2026-27

We are excited to welcome our existing families and new families who will be joining us this new school year! We will post this message to Edsby as soon as it is up and running fully as we have been experiencing some technical difficulties.

Here is some information regarding the start of tis year: 

First Day Back: The first day back for students in Grades 1-8 is Wednesday, September 2. This will be a half day (morning only) from 8:40-11:40 a.m. Doors open at 8:20. Students will be assigned to classrooms on September 2. Full day classes start Thursday, September 3 (8:40-3:10). Kindergarten students have a staggered start, and times have been communicated by the classroom teacher. 

Pick-up at the End of the Day: Due to congestion in the hallways, please wait for your children outside the school at the end of the day. Teachers of the younger grades will take the children outside to meet you.

Class Lists: Class lists have now been finalized after careful planning and consideration by our staff. Student placement has been thoughtfully determined based on many factors, including academic needs, social development, friendships, learning styles, and teacher strengths. We also used sociograms and student input to help ensure that every child has at least one friend of their choice in their class. While it may not be possible for every friend to be in the same classroom, there are many opportunities throughout the school day for students to connect and for students to make new friends. Teachers also collaborate closely across grade levels and are intentional about supporting friendships and connections beyond a single classroom.

We encourage you to have an open and positive mindset, as your child will take cues from your response. Your trust in our professional judgment is truly appreciated as we work to support every student's success.

On the morning of September 2, finalized class lists will be posted outside each boot room and classroom door.

Supplies: Please have your child bring school supplies on September 2. Student supply lists are available on our website at https://www.gscs.ca/kat/page/1527/school-supplies.  

Buses: Bus students who were registered last year do not need to re-register. New bus registrants should hear from the bus driver regarding pick-up time and location before school starts. 

Before and After School Program: For those who have already registered, Golden Rule Before and After School Program will begin on the first full day of regular classes on Thursday, September 3, 2026 for both before care and after school care. There will not be before and after school care on September 2. Information can be found at www.goldenrulesaskatoon.com
