General Notices


Early Dismissal

Please note that on Thursday, September 17 students will be dismissed at 12:30. Staff will be participating in professional learning in the afternoon. Students need to be out of the building by 12:45. If you have a supervised extracurricular activity, you can return at 3:30. Thanks for your help and cooperation!

Library closure

The library will be closed over the lunch hour on Friday, September 18th for Grade 12 presentation. Sorry for the inconvenience.


Holy Cross Clothing Sale 

There will be a clothing sale Wednesday, September 16th at lunch near the school entrance. Come out and get some merch to show your support for the Holy Cross Crusaders!

We will try our best to have the sale ready to go at 11:45 am. Cash, debit and credit will be accepted.

Community Travel Club - Easter Travel 2027
Want to travel with your friends? Want to travel to Hong Kong for 11 days, over the Easter break? We are currently looking for Holy Cross students to join our community travel group for the Easter break 2027.

See the posters in the hallways and sign up for the first meeting, using the QR code.

Our first information meeting will be a virtual meeting held on September 21st at 7:00pm! Sign up quickly as there are limited spots available!


TOONIES FOR TERRY – Terry Fox Fundraiser

“Even if I don’t finish, we need others to continue. It’s got to keep going without me.” When Terry spoke these works in 1980, he could not have imagined that 45 years later so many would take up his call. Last year 3.9 million students in Canada were walking, rolling, wheeling, running, and fundraising. Last year we were a part of that number and our school contributed $1,794.30 to cancer research. The Terry fox team has reached an extraordinary milestone of raising $1 billion dollars, to date, for cancer research in Terry’s name. This achievement belongs to every volunteer, donor, and fundraiser who believes in Terry’s dream and helps turn it into lasting impact. But that number represents more than dollars. It means lives improved, discoveries made, and hope extended to families across Canada and around the world.

This year, students from Mrs. Turk’s and Mrs. Sherven’s grade 11 and 12 Phys ed classes will be heading our fundraising endeavors. We want to raise TOONIES FOR TERRY. Our goal is to raise $2 per person in our building. The class that can raise the most amount of money will earn Nesters’ Long Johns for their entire class.

We will do our 20 min walk for Terry on Monday Sept 21st during period 3. Grade 9s will start walking at 11:00, grade 10s at 11:15, grade 11 at 11:30, and grade 12s at 11:40. We will send out the route closer to the date.

You can give your donations to your homeroom teacher, who will collect them in the envelope they were provided. Or you can donate online. If you donate online, encourage your teacher to set up a classroom page so that the money still goes towards your class winning long johns. Homework Hall Tutorial 

Would you like help from a teacher with your homework in a quiet space? Homework Hall tutorial time takes place every lunch hour in Room 332. All students are welcome to attend; it does not have to be assigned to you – you can just drop in. 

 

SRC

This Friday the SRC will be hosting our annual Club and Team fair. Come to the front entrance and commons Friday at lunch to see all that Holy Cross has to offer for clubs and teams. 

 

Driver’s Ed

Please make sure to check the Driver’s Ed bulletin board for the driving schedule.

New classes will be starting in October so make sure to register.

 

Volunteer

CAP Opportunity - If you would like to get started on the volunteer hours for your CAP, there are two afternoons open at awâsisak kâ-nîmîhtocik - St. Francis School (2010 7th St E): Thursday, Oct 1 from 1-3:30pm. Please see Mrs. Dale to sign up or send her an Edsby message. There will be 4 more opportunities before Christmas as well.  

On Thursday, October 1, our friends at Stensrud need our help!

After school, beginning at 12:45 p.m., students who are interested in helping with yard cleanup are invited to join me and a few students from Walter Murray as we winterize Stensrud's courtyard.

Please remember to:

  • Bring a pair of garden gloves
  • Wear clothing appropriate for the weather

Clubs

Rosary Group

We will be making rosaries TODAY after school in the Chapel. We will be finished at 4:45, you can earn 1.5 hours for each Wednesday rosary making session you attend. Hope to see you there! 


Film Club

NOW TUESDAYS AT LUNCH IN 121!

Welcome back, Fantastic Film Friends, and a warm welcome to everyone who likes to watch the newest trailers and short films, then discuss all things cinema among a most excellent student-led crowd! Drop in, bring your lunch and a friend, and let’s get rolling!


Attention Gamers! The Chess and Games Club is now open and ready for your genius. For those interested in chess, please feel free to attended Monday to Friday anytime over lunch in room 377. For those interested in board games, card games, and RPG games, please go to room 122 Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Faith and Science

The Faith and Science Group information meeting scheduled for Wednesday at lunch will be postponed to next week because Mr. Cratty will not be available today at lunch.


Global Bridges

Global Bridges is a group that will be focused on racial justice and promoting cultural understanding within our school. The next group meeting will be next week, Thursday, September 24th at lunch in room 400 (Mr. Cratty's room). It is upstairs in the new portables.


Youth Alliance

The Youth Alliance Club is a group for the 2SLGBTQ+ community and their allies. Hosted in Room 361, this safe and inclusive space meets every other Thursday all year! 


Outdoor Ed - Senior Hike

Attention all Grade 12s interested in participating in the Senior Hiking Trip this year! You MUST be registered in at least 3 in-person classes in the second semester to be eligible to attend this year's trip. We will have our first meeting in April, so stay tuned for the specific date. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Wihak.


Athletics

Senior Boys Basketball Meeting 

Mandatory meeting in Mr. Vause's room (116) TODAY at lunch. This meeting is for all senior boys basketball players of last years team AND any players that will be trying out for the team this year.


Morning Ball

Due to morning classes in the gym in the first semester, there will no longer be morning ball. The weight room will still be open in the mornings EXCEPT on Tuesdays. Please do not enter the gym area while classes are in session unless you are going to the weight room.

Forum for Young Canadians 2027 is a unique opportunity for Canadian youth aged 15 to 18 to spend a week in Ottawa exploring Parliament, participating in leadership and political simulations, and connecting with students from across the country. Applications are open now, with summit sessions taking place between February and April 2027, and financial assistance is available to ensure cost is not a barrier.
