General Notices 

**An important reminder to please use the crosswalks when crossing the streets and use the crosswalk light on Taylor Street for safety reasons. **


** Students should not be hanging out in the hallways during class time as it is disruptive to classes. Students should refrain from being on their phones in the hallways as well. If you have a spare, you can be in the commons or library when available. Thanks for your cooperation! **

 

Student ID cards

If you do not have a Student ID card, please come to the main office and sign up to have your photo taken for a temporary student ID. 

If you plan to attend the Winter Formal, you will need a School ID to get into the dance. Please, come to the office so we can make you a temporary school ID. 

 

Semester 1 Final Assessment Schedule

Here is the schedule for January 19 – January 23:

Mandatory review/Instructional time

Attention students - if you are going to miss any final assessments, you must meet with Ms. Hayes in advance for permission and to fill out a form to reschedule your assessments. 

 

Student Volunteers Needed 

Student leaders are needed for our Grade 8 Feeder school visits on Thursday, February 5 from 12:30 - 3:00pm at Holy Cross (this is a shortened day). If you would like to sign up to lead a group, please sign up at the main office this week. See Ms. Hayes if you have any questions. There will be a meeting on Thursday, January 29th at noon in the office conference room about the details of the afternoon. Thanks in advance for your help! 


Library News

All library books are now due. Please return books before finals to avoid being charged for them. If you are unsure if you have a book out, please check your school e-mail, or check the wall in the library where all overdue books are posted. If there is an issue with your book, please see Ms. Rode in the library. 

 

The library will also be closed to students during Grad Photos Jan 16th to Jan 23rd. However, the library will still be open for students to print and do individual work at the computers only but will not be open during the lunch hour. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.


2024-25 Yearbook

If your photo was missing from last year’s yearbook, please let us know at the main office. If you already let us know, you do not have to touch base. We want to ensure we have everyone who was missed as we work to come up with a solution. Thank you!


SCHOOL MASS

On Wednesday, Jan 21 you are welcome to participate in our end-of-Semester-1 Mass in the Chapel after the Period 3 final assessment.  Please contact Mrs. Dale if you would like to be part of the Ministry team for that Mass.  


2025-26 Media Release Forms – Only 57% completed.

This is a reminder that Student Media Release forms must be completed ASAP.

The form must be filled out by a parent/guardian; one per student attending Holy Cross.

Driver’s Ed

Please make sure to check the Driver’s Ed Bulletin Board by Student Services to see the driving schedule and information on registering for Driver’s Ed. Make sure to register soon to enter the next lunch hour class beginning in February or the next after school class.

Scent-free School! 

Reminder to all students that Holy Cross is a scent-free building.  Please refrain from using excessive amounts of perfumes, colognes or body sprays which would impact those around you who have allergies to strong scents. 


Youth Study Group

Free Tutoring - Youth Study Group - after school Every Wednesday 3:30-5:30 in the Library at Holy Cross.


Homework Hall Tutorial  

Would you like help from a teacher with your homework in a quiet space? Homework Hall tutorial time takes place each lunch hour in Room 341 (Mr. Heath's room). All students are welcome to attend. 

 

Cafeteria 

** Cafeteria lunch cards can be used now. ** 

The following items will be available daily at the cafeteria:  

Burgers, sandwiches, subs, wraps, baking and various snacks.

Clubs

Outdoor Ed – MEETING TODAY

Come join us for a day of outdoor adventure and cross-country skiing at Ebs Trail in the Nisbet Provincial Forest on Monday, January 26th. Come to a quick meeting in the sewing room at lunch TODAY for more information and to pick up your forms. 

 

Chess Club

Chess club has moved to room 377 in the new portables. All levels of skill are welcome.

 

LYNGr

Please join us Wednesday, Jan 14 in the Chapel at lunch to celebrate what we accomplished in Semester 1, and to begin planning for Semester 2 activities.  Bring your lunch, your friend, and your ideas for how we can show that we are following Jesus' words to Love Your Neighbour.  See you there!

 

Holy Cross Youth Alliance 

The Youth Alliance is back! This group is for our 2SLGBTQ+ Students and Allies! It focuses on advocacy and support for all our students and staff here, regardless of their identity. We meet every Thursday during noon hour in room 361. Join us for our 10th year of being a club at Holy Cross, a school where everyone belongs! ❤️ 

  

Rosary group

The Rosary will be prayed in the Chapel on Mondays at 12:15, rosaries and copies of the prayers will be provided.  Rosaries will be made on Wednesdays after school in Room 241 from 3:20-4:35. You can count 1.25 hours toward your CAP for each session attended (4 sessions = 5 hours).  Please contact Mrs. Dale if you have any questions.    


Bannock & Tea
 This is a lunch time club where we build community and learn about Indigenous beading. Everyone is welcome to join!

In the new year we will alternate meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch. Here are our January dates:

  • Tuesday January 13th (Shanna LaMontague will join us!)
  • Thursday January 29th 

Room 294 (Head through the theatre, turn left, and head upstairs).

 

Book Club – No meeting in January

Join the HCHS's Book Club and discover new worlds with fellow students who love to read. We’re all about great books, good conversation, and an escape from the usual routine. 

We meet on the last Tuesday of every month during lunch in classroom 102. Bring your lunch and a list of your favorite books, and we’ll pick 2-3 to read for the month.  

 

Games Club 

All those students interested in playing board games and card games over lunch hour are invited to come out and play in Room 122 Tuesday – Friday. If you do not know how to play, you will learn. See Mr. Allen for more information.
