Message to Bethlehem Catholic High School Community

Dear Bethlehem School Community,

I am writing to provide a further update following the fire at Bethlehem Catholic High School and to thank you for the patience, prayers, and support you have shown over the past few days. Our community has been extremely supportive as emergency responders, investigators, school administration, and division staff continue their work.

At this time, our priorities remain the well-being of our students and staff, and careful planning for the start of the school year in September. Bethlehem administration and division leadership are working closely together to prepare for any facility challenges that may need to be addressed before students return.

We now know that the four new relocatable classrooms (portables) were lost in the fire. There was also fire damage to a couple of the existing relocatables, as well as smoke and water damage to the remaining relocatable classrooms. In addition, there was some water damage in the main school building.

The relocatable classroom area is not yet accessible, as Saskatoon Fire Department investigators continue their work. We are grateful for their continued care and professionalism as they complete this important process.

The main school building has had remediation work underway 24 hours a day since Saturday. Based on the work taking place, we anticipate that the main school will be ready for a regular fall start. We know this is important information for families and staff as everyone begins preparing for the new school year.

There may still be changes required to classroom spaces in the relocatable wing, and some schedule adjustments may be needed. Any changes that affect students and families will be shared once we have confirmed information and a clear plan in place. We expect to be able to share more details about the relocatables by the end of this week.
