Welcome to Bethlehem Catholic High School! 

Although this year will be unique, 

we remain hopeful, grateful, and excited to begin the upcoming school year together.

Please read the information below and share with your parents/caregivers.

School Schedule for Semester 1

Wednesday, September 2 (Day A) First Day of Classes 

AM – Grade 9 & 10 Students

PM – Grades 11 & 12 Students

Thursday, September 3 (Day B) (Students will follow this daily schedule each day for Semester 1):

AM – Grade 9 and 10 Student 

 PM – Grades 11 and 12 Students

Supported Learning Time
Supported Learning Time is a flexible learning opportunity designed to ensure that students have access to additional teacher support and learning opportunities when needed. Please see the additional attachment for more information regarding Supported Learning Time. 

Student Access to the School
Students are asked to arrive at the school no more than 20 minutes prior to the start of their scheduled school day and leave no more than 20 minutes after their scheduled day unless they are accessing Supported Learning Time. Students who remain at school due to extracurricular commitments, transportation arrangements, or other school-related responsibilities are required to attend Supported Learning Time. To maintain a productive learning environment, students will not be permitted to congregate in hallways, the commons area, or other unsupervised spaces during SLT, as this may disrupt the learning of others.

Locks & Lockers 
All lockers are assigned through the main office of the school to students in Grade 9 and 10 each school year. All students must use a lock purchased from the school (black lock) on their hallway lockers. If you have misplaced your lock from previous years, you may purchase a used lock from the attendance office for $10. 

• Students in Grade 9 will receive their locker assignment and lock from their period 3 teachers on the first day of classes. 
• Students in Grade 10 will receive their locker assignment from their period 3 teachers on the first day of classes. Please bring your lock from last school year with you and place it on your locker once you have received your new locker assignment. 
• Students in Grades 11 and 12 may request a lock from the attendance office beginning Tuesday, September 8. 

Student Timetables 
Timetables will be available on EDSBY and My School Sask by 12:00 pm on Wednesday, August 26. Students are asked to review their timetable prior to the first day of school to ensure they have the correct classes. Students will not be provided with a paper copy and are asked to come with a printed copy or a photo on their phone.

To review your timetable, please go to My School Sask in your GSCS portal and follow the instructions below:

All students returning from a GSCS school have access to EDSBY either through the GSCS portal by selecting the EDSBY tile in their student account or by downloading the app to their handheld device. Timetables will be available to students on EDSBY as of Wednesday, August 26. Parents will not be able to view next year's classes through EDSBY at this time.

To view timetables in EDSBY, students can go to the EDSBY tile in their GSCS portal, log into their student account, and scroll down on the right-hand side to select the View Timetable button.

Schedule Changes 
Some students may experience a change in their schedule after the first week in September. We will do our best to minimize these changes; however, adjustments may need to be made to accommodate changes in enrolment.

During course selection in the spring, students were advised to make sure they knew which courses they wanted in their schedule. Schedule changes will be made for educational reasons only. Please do not request a change for personal convenience or preference. All change requests must be submitted prior to 4:00 pm on Thursday, September 3. 

For students who notice an error or omission in their timetable, please send an EDSBY message to the appropriate staff member(s). For example, if you are a Grade 11 student requesting a timetable change, please message both Ms. Puto and Ms. Deacon. In your message, clearly outline the requested change and the reason for it. Please note that timetable change requests may result in additional adjustments to your overall schedule. Be sure to check EDSBY regularly for updates regarding your request and any schedule changes.

If you would like to meet with a counsellor to discuss credits, graduation, and/or post-secondary requirements, please make an appointment at student services with Ms. Okotinsky, 306-659-7909. All change requests, including appointments for changes, must be made prior to 4:00 pm on Thursday, September 3. 

If you are leaving French Immersion, Band and/or Choir, please speak with Mme. Vermette (French) or Ms. Strong/ Mr. Snell (Band/Choir) prior to requesting a change. 

Photographs
Photographers will be available at the Shaw Centre on Wednesday, September 2 and Thursday, September 3 for students to have their school photos. Students in Grades 11 and 12 are asked to go to the Shaw Centre in the morning and students in Grades 9 and 10 are asked to go to the Shaw Centre in the afternoon on either of these days to have their photo taken. Please do not go for your school photo when you are scheduled to be in class.

Please report directly to the photo area and exit the Shaw Centre immediately after having your photo taken.

These photos will be used for your Student ID card, yearbook, and EDSBY. All students are required to have a photo taken. Students missing having their photo taken on either of these days may not receive a student ID card or have an image for the yearbook.

Students will receive a proof package from this sitting later in September. At that time, they may order their photograph. Please dress appropriately (no hats) as these are used for student cards and in the yearbook.

Cellphones
Cellphones are not permitted during class time across K-12 schools in Saskatchewan. Students will keep personal electronic devices out of sight and on silent mode or off during instruction. This includes texting, calling, accessing social media, browsing the internet, or using any applications. As well, students are not permitted to use headphones and/or ear buds during instructional time, as all phones are to be out of sight, in silent mode or off during class time. Therefore, students aren’t allowed to listen to music in class, from their phones. 

School Supplies
Students should come to school with a small supply of pens, pencils, binder(s), and paper. Teachers will advise students of other specific needs for their classes.

Absent Reporting Tool 
All absence reporting can be completed on EDSBY. Please find a link below for information on how to use EDSBY. If you need to be invited to download the link, please contact the school. https://edsby.com/help/parents.  

Student Fees 
School fees are assigned to all students based on their enrollment and courses they are registered for each school year. Fees are assigned to all courses that have consumable costs associated with them. Course fees are non-refundable if students chose to discontinue the course more than 15 days into the semester. 

School fee invoices will be sent home with students mid-September. Fees are payable to the main office by Friday, October 30. If this is not possible, please speak with Ms. Chomitzky in the Main Office to make alternate arrangements for a payment schedule. If there are difficulties with payment, please contact Ms. Hanlan Stroh. Payments are accepted at the school in the form of cash, credit or debit. The school doesn’t accept personal cheques for payments of any fees including team/travel fees. Families wishing to pay by credit card can do so on the MySchoolBucks app at www.myschoolbucks.ca.

Students with past due amounts from previous school years will be receiving an invoice during the second week of school. Families are asked to please take care of these invoices prior to Monday, September 21. 

Students wishing to participate in extracurricular activities, including participation on school teams; and out of school excursions such as music tours, outdoor education excursions, etc. must have all school fees paid in advance of extracurricular fees and excursion payments being accepted.

Transit Service
City of Saskatoon provides bus stops by all Saskatoon high schools. Bus passes and tickets are available for purchase on a reloadable card at the school in 10 ticket, 20 ticket or full month passes. City transit now offers an app where bus passes/tickets can be loaded onto android devices or iPhones. Please visit the Saskatoon Transit website at http://www.city.saskatoon.sk.ca/org/transit/ for more information.

Current transit rates for high school students are $2.75 for a single ride (exact change only).

Reloadable student bus cards are available for monthly passes and tickets in multiples of 10 or 20 rides. The cost for these items is:

Reloadable card - $5
Monthly Pass: $62.00 (valid for the month of purchase)
30 Day Pass: $62.00
20 rides: $45.00
10 rides: $22.50 

Cards must be registered with Saskatoon City Transit in the event of a card being lost or stolen.
