Use of ChatGPT to be discontinued effective Aug. 1

Effective August 1, 2026, ChatGPT will no longer be an approved platform for GSCS staff and students and will be disabled on division systems. As an open large language model, ChatGPT does not operate within a secure, division-controlled environment. This creates concerns related to privacy, data protection, and the handling of sensitive school and student information.

Moving forward, students are asked to use Microsoft Copilot or Google Gemini when accessing AI tools through their GSCS accounts. These platforms operate within secure, managed domains, meaning that data is protected and not used to train external systems, aligning with our expectations for confidentiality and security. Students are able to access both Copilot and Gemini directly from the GSCS Portal or at https://gscs.link/copilot or https://gscs.link/gemini. Please see the attached document with instructions on how to export the ChatGPT data from gscs.ca accounts should you wish to do so.
We recognize the growing role of AI in supporting teaching, learning, and operational efficiency. This adjustment is intended to ensure that staff can continue to leverage these tools safely and responsibly.
