March 24, 2022
prayer-for-healing-and-reconciliation

As we continue our journey on the road to reconciliation and healing of relationships with Indigenous peoples, we invite you to pray for the delegation from Canada that has travelled to Rome and will meet with Pope Francis from March 28 to April 1. Following ongoing dialogue with the Assembly of First Nations, Métis, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, and other Indigenous partners, this group of residential school survivors, Elders, knowledge keepers and young people will share directly with the Holy Father their experiences of the past, the challenges of the present, and their hopes for the future. They will also offer him counsel with regard to his future visit to Canada, which was announced in October 2021.

On Monday, March 28, there will be a Diocesan Day of Prayer for this occasion. (locations and opportunities to participate below.) Our Lady of Guadalupe Circle, a national coalition of Catholic organizations and individuals working together to renew and foster relationships with Indigenous Peoples in Canada, has created a prayer card for this occasion, and they invite the faithful across the nation to pray with one another, asking the Blessed Mother to intercede on behalf of all for the conversion and healing of hearts.

Additional reflection, education, and prayer materials may be found on the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) website.

More information regarding the work of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Circle can be found on their website.

O Blessed Virgin, Our Lady of Guadalupe intercede for us with your Son that we who live in this land, Indigenous and non-Indigenous together may experience healing and reconciliation, on a renewed journey for justice and peace for our children. Mother of the Church, pray for us.
