Ron Boechler: 1963 - 2025

With heavy hearts, we mourn the loss and celebrate the life of long-serving Board of Education trustee J.R. (Ron) Boechler, who passed away October 12, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer. 

First elected as a Board of Education trustee in 1997, Ron served continuously on the board for 28 years. He served as vice-chair of the board for the last seven years and represented the division on several boards and committees, including Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools Foundation board; the Together and Faith and Action committee; as a representative on Saskatchewan School Boards’ Association and Saskatchewan Catholic School Boards’ Association; the māmawohkamātowin partnership with Saskatoon Tribal Council; and the nākatēyimitowin educational partnership with Central Urban Métis Federation Inc.

Ron is survived by his wife Pat, his children Matthew, Christopher, Devon, and Hannah, and three grandchildren.

“Ron faithfully served the division and took his responsibility as a trustee seriously,” said Board of Education Chair Diane Boyko. “He was never apprehensive to ask questions and challenge assumptions to make sure that he had information to help make what he thought was the best decision for the students and staff he served.”

A memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday October 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Co-Cathedral, 720 Spadina Crescent, Saskatoon.
