Grade 8 student leadership conference Mass

Pews—and overflow seats—at the Cathedral of the Holy Family were filled with Grade 8 students from all Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools' elementary schools at the Student Leadership Conference on Wednesday, October 2, 2025.

With the theme of hope during the Catholic church's Jubilee Year of Hope, the afternoon started with Mass celebrated by Fr. Gerard Cooper.

Guest speaker Kendal Netmaker, founder of Indigenous clothing company Neechie Gear, shared his personal and inspirational story of how acts of kindness toward him and his family while growing up gave him hope and helped shape him into the person he is today.

Smaller groups of students also enjoyed singalong sessions, group activities with high school leaders to foster leadership when students transition to high school next year, and a dance.

Darcie Lich, GSCS religions education coordinator presented on Jesus' call to discipleship. Using St. Matthew's Gospel account of the great commission, she shared how we are all called to go and make disciples of others.

Thank you to Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools Foundation Inc. for generously supporting the event.
