Voices of Hope: St. Anne School students honour human rights advocate

Ms. Manovich's Grade 7/8 class at St. Anne Inquiry School gathered at Rotary Park Peace Plaza on September 23 (just two days after the International Day of Peace) to honour Narges Mohammadi, the Iranian human rights activist and 2023 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. The event, hosted by the Saskatoon Nutana Rotary Club in partnership with Meewasin Valley Authority, is an annual tradition of recognizing individuals whose courage, compassion, and leadership promote hope and peace.
Students shared what they learned about Narges, including posters promoting peace and an end to violence against women.
Representatives from Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools, Saskatoon Nutana Rotary Club, and Meewasin Valley Authority spoke about the importance of students being leaders towards a peaceful world.
The plaque was sponsored by Rotarians Dorothy Hudson and Bill Christensen.
Narges Mohammadi received the Nobel Peace Prize while still in an Iranian prison "for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all.” She commented, "I will never stop striving for the realization of democracy, freedom and equality. Surely, the Nobel Peace Prize will make me more resilient, determined, hopeful and enthusiastic.”
