To be considered for Holy Cross Scholarships and Awards, refer to the following:

  • Review the Scholarship Eligibility criteria.
  • Review the Award Eligibility criteria.
  • Provided a Brief cover letter for EACH Scholarship & EACH Award that you are applying for? 
  • Does the scholarship/award require that you include any other supporting documentation(some scholarships/awards require additional information)
  • Cover letters should be clearly labeled with your name, and the name of the scholarship or award. 
  • Cover letters should include a brief description as to how you meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Cover letters and supporting documentation is due back to Student Services no later than Friday, March 3rd.  No late applications will be accepted.
  • In addition to the Cover Letters, Art Awards require applicants to submit a portfolio of no more than 10 pieces to Student Services no later than Thursday April 27th.

Students may receive a maximum of one Scholarship, &/or one Athletic Award, &/or one Social Award.


Having applied for, or having been nominated for an award does not guarantee receiving of the award.
 

Late applications will not be accepted.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS


Chris Roy Memorial Scholarship

Value: $2,000

Number: 1

Criteria:
1. Be graduating from Holy Cross High School and must have been in attendance at Holy Cross High School for the entire Grade 12 year.
2. Possess and exhibit qualities of a good school citizen, have a great love and passion for life, and through his/her kind deeds and thoughtfulness towards others – students and staff – has made Holy Cross High School and the community at large a better place.
3. Have an academic average which meets the entrance requirements for the post secondary program chosen. Preference will be given to students not on the Honor Roll.
4. Provide proof of acceptance to the post secondary program within two years of graduating from Grade 12.
5. Demonstrate the ability to work to his/her potential and achieve personal growth and does not normally receive recognition at school.

To apply:
*   Provide a brief personal statement describing how their qualities of being a good school citizen, they have contributed to making Holy Cross High School and their community a better place.

 

The Les & Irene Dubé Service & Justice Scholarship

Value: $2000

Number: 1

Criteria:
1. Must be a Grade 12 student at Holy Cross High School.
2. Minimum academic average of 85% on their Grade 12 course.
3. Demonstrated outstanding leadership and Christian service during their high school years.
4. The student nominated must enroll in at least six (6) credit units of courses taught by St. Thomas More College.
5. The student must agree to participate fully in our Service and Justice Program, which is administered by our college Campus Ministry team.  This commitment requires two hours of community volunteer work per week, excluding holiday and exam periods.

To apply:
*   Student must provide a brief statement of any previous involvement in social justice programs or activities in school or in their community as well as a statement of agreement that they will participate in the Campus Ministry Team (Criteria #5).

 

Curtis Dayday Memorial Scholarship

Value: $500

Number:   1

Criteria:
1. Has been active in the athletic program as an athlete, manager/official, a fan, or as an individual who is always willing to lend a helping hand.
2. Have a sense of sportsmanship, genuine enthusiasm, a love of activity, and a zest for life.
3. Have an academic average which meets the entrance requirements for the post- secondary program chosen.

Tenability:
The scholarship is intended for first year full-time students attending a recognized post-secondary learning institution. The scholarship may be held over for one year upon notice to the Foundation Executive Administrator.

 

Our Lady of the Prairies Foundation Scholarship

Value: $1000

Number:   1

Criteria:
1. The scholarship will be awarded to a student that is working at his/her potential.
2. One that possesses and exhibits the qualities of a good citizen and that normally does not receive public notice in the school.
3. It is designed for a student that is not necessarily on the honor roll but has attained the requirements for the post-secondary program of their choice.

Tenability:
1. This scholarship is intended for first year students attending any post-secondary learning institution ie: U. of S., Kelsey, Business colleges, Hair Styling School, Computer Trade School, etc.
2. Recipient must provide proof of acceptance to such school in the same year as the scholarship is awarded.

 

Principals' Association Scholarship

Value: $1000

Number: 1

This award rotates throughout the Greater Saskatoon Catholic High Schools.  Holy Cross will offer this Scholarship in 2018.

Criteria:
1. Be a full time student for the entire year.
2. Have met the requirements for graduation.
*   3. Have demonstrated actual and potential leadership. Obtain a letter of recommendation from a teacher who can testify to demonstration of leadership at school. Write a 500 word summary of your development as a 'leader' while attending school.  Include the signatures of two adults who can verify your involvement in activities.
4. Have attained the requirements for post secondary program of their choice.
5. Attach proof of acceptance to such program in the same year as the scholarship is awarded. If special circumstances prevail, obtain note from counsellor.
*   6. Have proven financial need. Write in 250 words or less a statement of your financial need.

 

Donald & Elma Zuck & Family Scholarship

Value: $1000

Number: 1

Criteria:
1. Grade 12 student
2. Academic average of 75% or greater.
3. Extensive involvement in Christian Ethics projects during Grade 12 if pursuing Priesthood/Religious Life and similar involvement in the Grade 12 Holy Cross Music Program if pursuing a degree in music.
*  4. Copy of a letter to the Bishop of the Saskatoon Diocese or the Saskatoon Eparchy indicating a student's intent to commence studies leading to the Catholic Priesthood or Religious Life if the award is in this area.
5. Demonstrated financial need in pursuing post-secondary studies.

 

Kiwanis Club of Riversdale Scholarship

Value: $500

Number: 1

This award is rotated amongst Saskatoon Catholic High Schools.  Holy Cross will offer this Scholarship in 2018.

Criteria:
1. Must be pursuing post-secondary studies in arts, science, music or professions.
2. Acceptable marks.
3. Good character.
4. Participation in student activities.
5. Community involvement.
6. Consideration for financial need.

 

Royal Vending Scholarship

Value: $250

Number: 1

Criteria:
1. Must be entering first year of post-secondary studies in Sask.
2. Minimum academic average of 75%.
3. Be a good character and exemplifies Christian values.
4. Have participated in school activities and shown some involvement in the community.
5. Financial need may be considered.
6. Preference may be given to those applicants pursuing post-secondary programs related to the social science and/or humanities.

To apply:
*   Attach to your application a brief statement of not more than 500 words describing career goals and the planned program for post-secondary studies.

 

Holy Cross Catholic School Community Council Art Award

Value: $200

Number: 1

Criteria:
1. Demonstration of hard work, talent and dedication in the field of arts; involvement in extra-curricular activities.
2. Must be a graduating Grade 12 student and planning to pursue studies in art-related fields.
3. Must be willing to part with one piece of art work which will be retained in the permanent collection at Holy Cross High School.

To apply: 
*   1.  Submit a Portfolio of art works (10 items) by deadline.

 

Sean Longstaff Memorial Award

Value: $500

Number: 1

Criteria:
1. Attendance for the entire Grade 11 or 12 year at Holy Cross High School.
2. Academic average of 70%.
3. Possesses a recognized ability in music and has contributed significantly to the music program(s) at Holy Cross High School.
4. Has demonstrated leadership in the area of school life.
5. There will be a recognized and demonstrated financial need to the part of the student.

 

Brett Boechler Memorial Scholarship

Value:  $1000

Number: 1

Criteria:
1. Be graduating from Holy Cross High School and must have been in attendance at Holy Cross High School for the entire Grade 12 year.
2. Possess and exhibit qualities of a good school citizen, is compassionate, demonstrates inclusivity, enthusiasm, and respect towards all.
3. Is well-rounded with demonstrated involvement/leadership in the school's extra-curricular program.  Candidate has been involved in a wide array of social and athletic activities. 
4. Have an academic average which meets the entrance requirements for the post- secondary program chosen.

 

Zachary Semenoff Memorial Music Scholarship

Value: $1000

Number: up to 2

Criteria:
1. Music must be a significant aspect of this person's life- music feeds their soul and is a part of who they have become.
2.
This person must have overcome or is working toward overcoming a challenge in their life.
3. Although music is significant, this person must also be a kind, well-rounded individual with varied interests.
4. This person has achieved an academic average that meets the entrance requirements for the post-secondary institution of their choice.
5. The recipient must provide proof of attendance/ acceptance into a post-secondary program within two years of graduation.

 

Edwards Edwards McEwen Architectural Scholarship

Value: $300

Number: 1

Criteria:
1. Attendance for the entire Grade 12 year at Holy Cross High School.
2. First time Grade 12 graduate.
3. Academic average of 80% or greater.
4. Acceptance in the first year of a post secondary educational institute as a full time student.
5. Demonstrated exceptional ability in one of the following subjects:
- Drafting (manual/AutoCAD)
- Art
- Graphic Art/Design
- Performing Arts/Music

To Apply Students Must Submit:
1. A brief statement of not more than 500 words describing their post secondary education plans and possible career goals.
2. A transcript of marks.
3. The name of a teacher who would provide a reference (who could attest to #5 above).
4. Completed application form.

 

Jubilee Scholarship (Risling Family)

Value: $100

Number: 1

Criteria:
1. Attendance for the entire Grade 12 year at Holy Cross where award is available.
2. An academic average which meets the entrance requirements for the post secondary program chosen by the student.
3. A student that exemplifies gospel values and is noticeably involved in school activities.

 

Kim Sawchuk Memorial Scholarship

(1) $1000

Criteria:

  1. Attendance during their tenure at both Bishop Klein and their current high school.
  2. An academic success level commensurate with one's abilities.
  3. Involvement in school programs i.e. athletics, choir, patrols, drama, SRG/SRC, etc.
  4. Demonstrated leadership in living up to school expectation as outlined in the school's belief statements.
  5. Demonstrated a positive school spirit.
  6. Financial need may be a consideration.
  7. Student must apply for scholarship.                              

* Students are to prepare a written statement which attests to how they perceive themselves regarding the above criteria.

Collision Plus Trade Scholarship

Value: $500

Number: 1

Criteria:
1. Must be a Grade 12 student at Holy Cross High School.
2. Must be actively pursuing a career as an Auto Body Technician.

To apply:
*   Submit a Resume and a letter outlining career goals.

 


 

AWARDS

A. L Ehman Leadership Awards

Presented at the Grade 12 level only to one male and one female student.

Criteria:
1.  Grade 12 student.
2.  Average of 75% and be in a position to complete the Holy Cross Secondary level Program at the end of June in the year it is presented.
3.  Must have participated in at least eight officially recognized extracurricular school activities such as athletic teams, social clubs or activities, of which at least one must have been selected in each of the four years of high school.
4.  Must display Christian values with the capacity of right judgement, and positive personality traits such as; deportment, responsibility, consideration, cooperation, courtesy, dependability, initiative, work habits, emotional control, and respect for authority.

 

Bishop James Mahoney Community Enhancement Award

Criteria:
1.  Grade 12 student.
2.  Full-time high school student.
3.  Involvement in activity or activities which best demonstrates his/her responsibility in the community.

 

Emil Loran-Eudore Fortier Spiritual Award

The Emil Loran-Eudore Fortier Bible Award is presented to a Grade 12 student who is a visible spiritual leader in the school, is involved in Church related activities, and is obviously committed to his/her faith.

 

Crusader Shields

Crusader Shields are awarded to students who have achieved an exceptional level of excellence throughout their years at Holy Cross.

Criteria: 

  • Grade 12 student
  • Minimum of 8 recognized extra curricular activities, at least one in each of their years at Holy Cross
  • Working at Academic Potential
  • Student citizenship attributes
  • Portrayal of Gospel Values
  • The student must not have received or be receiving a major award during their grade 12 year.  ie: memorial awards, outstanding contribution awards

 

U of T Book Award (determined in the fall)

Each school is invited to choose one outstanding student on the basis of
1.  Grade 12 student.
2.  Superior academic performance.
3.  Original and creative thought.
4.  Exceptional achievement in a broad context.
5.  Intending to begin University study in fall of graduating year.

 

Kloeble Trophy for the Performing Arts

This award is presented to the student who in the opinion of the social activities supervisors has made the most significant overall contribution to the performing arts at Holy Cross.

 

H.M. Skidmore Trophy

This award is presented to the student who in the opinion of the social activities supervisors has made the most significant overall contribution in the social area.

 

Laurie Leier Memorial Award

This award is presented in memory of Laurie Leier who was one of the finest athletes to ever compete for Holy Cross. Her intense desire to excel, her generosity towards others, and the zest with which she led her life left an enduring impression on all those who knew her. It is a great tragedy that Laurie lost her life in a traffic accident while attending the University of Oregon on a Volleyball scholarship.

This award is presented to the female student of Holy Cross who makes an outstanding contribution to athletics by displaying the qualities of:
1.  Christian Leadership
2.  Good Sportsmanship
3.  Commitment to excellence in athletics

 

Brennan Jarrett Memorial Award

Brennan Jarrett Memorial Award is presented annually to the male student of Holy Cross who makes an outstanding contribution to athletics by displaying qualities of:
1.  Christian Leadership
2.  Good sportsmanship
3.  Commitment to excellence in athletics

 

Bishop Klein Award

The Bishop Klein trophy is awarded to a student in recognition of a student's musical proficiency.

 

SSSAD Spirit of Service Award

The SSSAD Spirit of Service Award is to be presented to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the schools intramural or athletic program in the spirit of service and volunteerism to make the school and community a better place.

 

A.E. Award of Excellence

Criteria:
1. Student registered in the Alternative Education Program
2. Student is leaving Holy Cross
3. Has demonstrated Leadership Skills
4. Has shown Personal Growth
5. Has strived to live by the Gospel Values
6. Has demonstrated Academic Integrity
