General Notices

Semester 1 Art students

Any students in Ms Ramsay's art classes from last semester, please come by to pick up your work TODAY at lunch or directly after school. Clay, Sketchbooks, prints, paintings, etc will be thrown out next week if not collected. 


French AP

There will be a French AP meeting on Wednesday February 8th at noon in room 112. Participants must attend.

 

Semester 1 Home Ec 90 Students

Please pick up your pajama shorts in the sewing lab.

 

Student Fees – MySchoolBucks:

Student fees are now overdue.  If your student has dropped a class and the fee is still on the statement or if you wish to remove the yearbook fee please notify the office. Fees can be paid on http://www.myschoolbucks.ca/.  We accept cash, debit or cheque at the main office. Please contact the main office if you have any questions. 

*A reminder to Grade 12’s – your fees must be paid in order for you to receive your grad gown for graduation*

 

After School Study Group

The youth study group will begin again on Wednesday, February 8th, from 3:30 to 5:30 in room 334. Extra support is available for all students in all subject areas. 

Homework Hall

Homework hall is available every week Tuesday through Friday in Room 341 from 12:15 – 1:00 pm for students needing extra help with their academics.

 


Cafeteria

Students can now purchase meal cards that can be used in the cafeteria. Anyone interested in purchasing one can come and purchase one between 12:30 – 1:00pm daily.

The following items will be available daily at the cafeteria:

Burgers, sandwiches, subs, wraps, baking and various snacks.

SRC

Monday, February 6th - Guess the Kisses Instagram Contest: Check out the SRC Instagram page, @hchsofficial , and see if you can correctly guess how many Hershey's Kisses are in the jar. Correctly guess the amount, and you'll be the winner of all the chocolates! 

 

Tuesday, February 6th, and Wednesday, February 7th - Candy Gram Sales: Send a Valentines treat to your friends. Candy Grams can be purchased for 50 cents at the SRC kiosk during the lunch hour.  


Clubs 

Outdoor Ed

Anyone interested in a Cross-country skiing excursion, please come to the Outdoor Ed meeting on TODAY at noon in room 105 to get more information. Everyone is welcome to attend.


Rosary Club – Resumes Feb 6th

Mondays from 3:15-4:30 in Room 121.  Come for an hour and 15 minutes of Service project time as we make Rosaries that will go to hospitals, care homes, Elementary schools, prison ministry, and mission trips! Any questions - talk to Mrs. Dale (Chaplaincy Office).  Hope to see you there!


Film Club – Resumes Feb 7th

Do you enjoy movies and TV? Then join Film Club! We will have weekly meetings every Tuesday at lunch. Meet in room 121 to enjoy and discuss trailers, clips and anything film related. We hope to see you there!


Beading Club

Hey Holy Cross! Are you interested in learning how to bead? All staff and students of any cultural background are welcome to come and learn how to make lanyards, earrings, medallions, pins, and any other seed bead related crafts! We run our club at noon hours and after school every Wednesday in room 136.


Youth Alliance

Throughout the school year on Thursdays our group will meet for lunch in room 136. This group is meant to be a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for our LGBTQ+ students and their allies. All staff and students are always welcome! This year our club will be run by Ms. Climenhaga and Mrs. Fuller, and we look forward to seeing all your lovely faces!


Holy Cross Chess and Games Club – Resumes Feb 6th

The HC Chess and Games club will meet Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays every week over lunch in Room 120. All are welcome to play a variety of board games, card games and chess.

Knitting Club – Resumes Feb 10th

Knitting club will meet Fridays at lunch in room 111.

Join the SIEC for the Spotlight on Careers in PUBLIC SERVICES

SPOTLIGHT ON EMERGENCY SERVICES – Tuesday, March 21 (9:00 am – 3:00 pm)

·         Students in grades 10 – 12 are invited to register for the full-day Spotlight on Emergency Services event, where they will tour Stars Air Ambulance and the Saskatoon Fire Department, participate in activities, and hear from the SaskPolytech Paramedic Program and Lakeland College’s Fire & Emergency Services Program. 

·         Details of the event will be communicated to students via email.

·         Registration Deadline: Tuesday, March 7, 2023     

 

SPOTLIGHT ON LAW ENFORCEMENT – Wednesday, March 22 (9:00 am – 3:00 pm)

·         Students in grades 10 – 12 are invited to register for the full-day Spotlight on Law Enforcement event, where they will tour and explore careers within the Saskatoon Police Service, participate in activities, and hear from the SaskPolytech Justice Studies Program and Saskatchewan Correctional Officers.

·         Details of the event will be communicated to students via email.

·         Registration Deadline: Tuesday, March 7, 2023

SIEC - Machining Bootcamp

Have you ever wondered how car parts are made? Or how rocket ships are built? It all starts with a Machinist.  Machinists set up and operate metal cutting tools. Apply now for the SIEC Machining Bootcamp and learn about the machining trade through hands on practice. Application deadline is Thursday, March 9, see student services for more details.


Evan Thomas Memorial Scholarship

This is a Scholarship for students in Saskatoon graduating from grade 12 this year. Dependent on the year, it can be between $2000 and $4000 dollars. To apply and find out more information go here: https://evanthomasscholarship.com/  The deadline to apply is March 31, 2023


Grade 11's!!! Scholarship Opportunity 

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall scholarships are awarded to grade 11 students to assist in finishing their grade 12 school year. You will need to pick up a nomination worksheet from Student Services and hand it in to Student Services by February 28th in order to be considered. SIEC - Welding & Fabrication Bootcamp

Are you interested in welding or fabrication? Do you enjoy working with your hands and working with tools? Apply now for the SIEC Welding & Fabrication Bootcamp.  You will have the opportunity to weld in an industry grade shop and learn from Saskpolytech instructors.  Application deadline is Tuesday, March 7, see student services for more details.


Meet and Greet for STEPS group

Elyse will be here on Friday Feb 10th at lunch to meet students that have questions or are wondering about out anxiety group. Stop by and meet her and ask questions - in the meeting room beside the Staff Room (near the gym)

 


Respiratory Therapy program at SAIT in Calgary

Saskatchewan has an agreement with SAIT to reserve seats for eligible Saskatchewan students in the Respiratory Therapy program. Respiratory Therapy students participate in a comprehensive three-year diploma program consisting of classroom, lab, study, clinical simulation and practicum rotations. Respiratory therapy is a diverse and specialized profession that assists physicians in diagnosing, treating and managing patients with issues that impact the heart and lungs. They work with patients of all ages in hospitals, long-term care or home care settings. Grade 12 Graduating Students

If you are a student in need of financial assistance for graduation and the activities that come along with it, please make an appointment with Mrs. Park and she can discuss options with you confidentially. 


All students Grade 9-12 – Do you struggle with Anxious thoughts or Anxiety? 

Would you like to learn some strategies and meet some other students that also struggle?  We bring in a facilitator from CFS to work with our students in small groups to help learn skills and strategies to cope with anxiety and develop resilience. If this is something you are interested in or would like to know more about, please talk to your counselor at Student Services and we can provide you with more details. Mrs. McNabb grades 9 & 11. Mrs. Park grades 10 &12. 


HCHS Nurse

Our School Nurse is Krista Winarsky, RN, BSN. She is here at Holy Cross High School on Thursday mornings from 8:15 am-12:45 pm. Krista will be located on the student services side of the main office.  All visits to the school nurse are confidential. 

The school nurse can help you with:

  1. Confidential one-on-one student supports with medical & health related matters
  2. Referrals to other community agencies / supports
  3. General first-aid
  4. Confidential pregnancy testing and supports as needed
