  • A letter to our Catholic school community

    April 6, 2018

    Dear parents/guardians and our Catholic school community;

    Our entire community grieves over the tragic loss of so many lives in the crash involving the Humboldt Broncos hockey team bus.

    At the time that I write this, we are unable to confirm if any of the deceased or injured are students in our school division. Nonetheless, we mourn the great loss as a community. These are our sons, brothers, teammates, classmates or former classmates, friends, billets, coaches, neighbours. Saskatchewan is a relatively small, tight-knit community. That’s why many stay here from generation to generation. And that’s why this tragedy hurts and affects us all. Our Catholic community is smaller and tighter still. We kneel in humble prayer for those we lost, for those who are injured, and for the families of all.

    Let us lean on and support each other as we mourn. School division teams will be working with school staff to provide support. Counselling and other support services are available for students should they be needed. Please don’t hesitate to talk to your teacher, principal or vice-principal if you feel your child needs support through the grieving process, which is unique for everyone.

    “For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.” 1 Thessalonians 4:14

    Sincerely,
    Greg Chatlain, Director of Education
    Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools
