Learning "must be supported by homes and communities" according to Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools' Superintendent of Education Gordon Martell.
That explains why he is excited about a partnership with United Way of Saskatoon and Area to participate in their Summer Success program.
In a guest blog post for the United Way, Martell writes about how Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools got involved in the program, the necessity for community support and funding partners, and how the program will help grow and sustain student literacy during the summer months.
"Our prediction is that these children will maintain, or even grow, in their assessed reading levels so that when they return to school in September, their learning will be maximized and they will experience joy and success not only in literacy instruction but in all areas of the school program."
